Contemporary Home

San Mateo, CA

Project Scope:
Full-Home Furnishings / Architectural Finishes / Art / Rugs / Styling

This contemporary concrete-and-glass residence was shaped by clarity, intention, and real life. Designed for an engineer couple who wanted to stay close to their parents while creating a home that felt distinctly their own, the project became an exercise in balancing modern design with practicality, longevity, and ease.

From the outset, the clients were clear about what mattered most: function over grandeur, comfort over excess, and thoughtful design that supports a busy, evolving lifestyle. Working within defined budget parameters, we led a strategic addition that transformed the home from a two-bedroom, one-bath layout into a four-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath residence—carefully planned to accommodate work-from-home needs, entertaining, visiting parents, and a growing family.

Our process began where it always does: with the floor plan. Before aesthetics, we focused on how the home would actually function day to day. How spaces would flow, where privacy was needed, and how rooms could flex between work, rest, and gathering. Guest rooms were designed to feel welcoming and effortless, entertaining spaces were optimized for movement and durability, and high-traffic areas were thoughtfully detailed to protect walls and finishes without compromising design.

Material and architectural decisions were driven by maintenance, resilience, and light. Concrete floors and oak-paneled walls provide durability and warmth, while clean-lined windows, skylights, and expansive openings flood the home with natural light, creating the bright, airy atmosphere the clients deeply valued. An acoustic door was introduced to support both focus and comfort. Allowing work and family life to coexist seamlessly under one roof.

Throughout the home, the integration of smart technology enhances ease and efficiency, supporting a lifestyle that demands both performance and calm. The result is a space that feels modern yet grounded, minimal yet inviting. Designed not for spectacle, but for living well.

This project reflects what defines our work: we design homes around how people live, not how they perform. We prioritize function, durability, and beauty in equal measure, creating spaces that evolve with our clients and stand up to everyday life.

If you’re looking for a modern home that feels intentional, livable, and truly tailored to you, this is where we excel.
